1000 attendees expected to rock 'n' roll up
STEP back to the 1950s at the rocking-est upcoming South Burnett event.
Nanango's Waterhole Rocks rock 'n' roll campout weekend starts Thursday, October 18 and one of the tireless co-ordinators, Sue Osberg, said they were ready to let their hair down.
"We already have over 300 vans booked this year and we are expecting over 1000 attendees,” she said.
The event has come a long way since it's inception in 2012.
"It all started when one of the committee members had a 1950's inspired burthday party and it grew from there,” Ms Osberg said.
"That first year we had 35 vans.”
The Waterhole Rocks rock 'n' roll event is four days of live music, dancing, fashion competitions, hot rods, classic cars, vintage caravans and more.
Ms Osberg, who looks after bookings and organising the artists, said the vintage-themed event would have something for everyone.
"We even have free dance lessons so you can get involved even if you don't know how to dance,” she said.
"It is quite easy actually.”
The vintage cars and hot rods attract car enthusiasts from across the country and their mystery cruise is always a hit.
"The cars go out on a drive to an unknown location,” Ms Osberg said.
"Previous years they have gone out to BP dam or to the Bunya Mountains.”
Ms Osberg said there were so many great parts of the campout weekend she couldn't pick a favorite.
"I love it all, I am just really passion about it,” she said.
"Last year a Victorian man heard about the event and drove all the way up here to attend.”
Things kick off Thursday morning with live music and Ms Osberg said everything was in place for another outstanding South Burnett event.
"We just have to lay the dance floor,” she said.
Ms Osberg said anyone that was interested in coming along could just show up at the gate, however it would be best to book ahead of time.
"The Thursday night spit roast is already sold out.”
The seventh annual Waterhole Rocks rock 'n' roll campout weekend runs from Thursday, October 18 to Sunday, October 21.
The event will be held at the Nanango Showgrounds on Cairns St, Nanango.
