New minimum-wage means a payrise for thousands

EMPLOYERS should make sure they are paying their workers on the minimum wage the right amounts, as the new increased wage starts next week.

The Fair Work Ombudsman on Friday urged all employers of the country's lowest-paid workers to check pay rates before the new wages start on Tuesday.

After the minimum review ended earlier this month, all workers on the low pay packets were given a 50 cent an hour rise, to be paid at least $16.87 an hour from July 1.

The FWO has relaunched its website with new pay guide to help employers and workers check that the appropriate pay packet is being delivered.
