Betros Bros calls time on Ruthven St store
AFTER 50 years of selling fruit and vegetables on the main street, Betros Bros will merge its Ruthven St store with the existing Russell St site.
The store will serve its last customer on August 15.
Operator Bevan Betros said he had fond memories of working at the store while he was at school in the 1960s, but the main street shopfront's time had come.
"We've stayed here as long as we can and it's just not viable any more," Mr Betros said.

"A lot of the people who used to shop have moved on. Downtown businesses have gone… busses used to run up the main street.
"Most people come in and buy a flavoured milk or a piece of fruit or some confectionery, and it's not viable like that.
"There's a tinge of sadness, but all our staff will be moving up to Russell St."
The original Betros Bros store opened on the other side of Ruthven St in 1938.

Mr Betros said he hoped the greater range at the Russell St store would keep their Ruthven St customers.
"We're very much oriented towards our people.
"Hopefully, a lot of our customers will come with us down to Russell St."
