Mercedes-AMG range to expand even further with C43 Coupe
JUST when you thought there could be no other model possible in the exhaustive Mercedes-Benz line-up, along comes an all new offering to cram into dealer showrooms.
But as it has an AMG badge on its attractive rump, we're finding it hard to find reasons to complain about the Mercedes-AMG C43 4MATIC Coupe.
Not least as it's heading for our shores later this year, fitting into the performance lineup below the $159,110 C63 coupe.
The C43 will be a more affordable two-door AMG offering, featuring a 3.0-litre V6 twin-turbo engine offering 270kW and 520Nm, sprinting from 0-100kmh in 4.7 seconds.
The twin-turbo V8-powered C63 delivers 350kW and 650Nm and cracks the 100kmh dash in four seconds flat. Baby brother isn't too much slower then.
The C43 features the brand's new 9G-Tronic automatic transmission and AMG Performance 4MATIC all-wheel drive system, and when combined with the boosted V6, Benz says the C43 "fulfils the brand promise of 'Driving Performance' in every respect."
Illustrating the massive depth of current Mercedes models (do you remember when they just had the C-Class, E-Class, S-Class and hulking G-Wagon to choose from?), the C43 is part of the Mercedes-AMG corporate philosophy to ensure "the continual extension of the product range to include all-new models which were hitherto not part of the portfolio.
The C43 not only enriches the wide line-up of the C-Class family, but also starts the introduction of a whole series of new '43' models this year."
More performance models will be on offer across the Benz range featuring this engine then, which should mean it'll be cheaper to get into an AMG product.
But pity the poor Mercedes salespeople who have to remember every product in the now almost comically massive line-up.
As for the car itself, the all-wheel drive system has a rear-biased torque distribution of 31% to 69% (front axle to rear axle), has AMG Ride Control sports suspension with three-stage variable damping (comfort, sport and sport plus), and AMG Dynamic Select with five different drive modes - eco, comfort, sport, sport plus and individual - altering engine, transmission, suspension and steering parameters.
Styling wise, the C43 sports light-alloy 18-inch wheels, diamond radiator grille with chrome-plated pins and a silver chrome front splitter.
Inside the flat bottomed steering wheel is black leather with red stitching, while more sporty red flashes can be seen with the stitching on the leather seats, red seat belts and red edging around the floor mats.
No confirmed Australian arrival date is known, nor is the price for the new C43, with information to be revealed closer to launch.
