Arts exhibition to shake up Kingaroy gallery

GET prepared for feathers and cages to take over the Kingaroy Regional Art Gallery as part of the gallery's latest exhibition.

Jumping Ants Arts Inc's latest arts exhibition Shaking the Cage will run from Friday, August 31 to Thursday, October 11.

Exhibition coordinator Melody Cook said the works were created by 18 South Burnett artists.

"It'd give us lots of pleasure to see the public come and view our work,” she said.

The Shaking the Cage theme came about when they tried to capture the variety of artists within the group.

"Where each artist had to shake their own skills and techniques out of their comfort zone,” Mrs Cook said.

The exhibition will display a range of mixed media.

"Shaking the Cage will feature ceramic and textile artists, print makers and visual artists, with a variety of mediums including acrylic, watercolour, ink and collage,” she said.

There will also be work from photographers and sculptors as part of the exhibition.

The artists have been preparing throughout the year for their annual exhibition.

"It's been a year in the making,” Mrs Cook said.

The exhibition will be officially opened on Thursday, September 6, at 6pm.

"We encourage all members of the public to be there on the night,” Mrs Cook said.

Guest speaker Danita Potter will be at the launch night, and the Jumping Ants artists will be there to discuss their artworks and the theme Shaking the Cage.

"The artists would be really chuffed if lots of people came,” she said.

A people's choice voting for the top artworks will run on the night, and canapes and light refreshments will be served.

Entry to the gallery and opening night is free, however there will be a raffle running on the Thursday night.

The raffle prize will be a handmade silk scarf and necklace, along with a crocheted bird.

A variety of the works will be on sale during the exhibition.

Jumping Arts Ants group meets every Wednesday at the 1913 chambers behind the Kingaroy Regional Art Gallery.
