Bitter-sweet farewell for Saint Mary's principal

ANGELA Myles has been principal of Saint Mary's Catholic College in Kingaroy for nearly four years, and her farewell has all the tastings of a bitter-sweet ending.

"I've just absolutely adored my time here in the South Burnett," Mrs Myles said.

"My family and I have been made to feel incredibly welcome by the community and parents.

"I wasn't planning to leave for another year or so. But, the perfect position became available."

Mrs Myles has been offered the position of principal at Saint Matthews in Mudgee, NSW.

"Mudgee is actually my hometown," she said.

"So I'll actually be going home to the school that I was a student at as a young person from kindergarten through to year 10.

"I haven't lived in the town for over 30 years but I'm still very connected there. All of my extended family and friends are based there. So that's the major attraction and why I just couldn't turn down this opportunity."

Mrs Myles said she was looking forward to living near friends and extended family, especially with having a young daughter herself.

"Grace is eight years old and it will be lovely for her to grow up surrounded by her cousins and other friends of the family," she said.

"It really was just too good of an opportunity to pass up.

"It's a kindergarten to Year 12 school, just like here, and I'm really excited to take what I've learnt in my years here back to my home town."

Coming full circle and returning to her home town was how Mrs Myles envisioned her life playing out, however she said she'll always look back fondly on her time at Saint Mary's.

"I've learnt a lot while here," she said.

"I think mainly how powerful a tight-knit and involved community can be. I've never felt more embraced or welcomed by a school's parents or the community I moved to.

"This was also my first experience with younger grades and I really do have a new-found respect for younger grade teachers.

"I'm excited to take what I've learnt back home."

The position of Saint Mary's principal has been advertised and there will be a parents and community meeting regarding the issue before the interviewing process begins. Mrs Myles will finish the school year as Saint Mary's principal.
