Bookies' money on Campbell Newman to lose his seat

THE bookies says the Queensland election on January 31 looks like being a bitter sweet one for Premier Campbell Newman.

Online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au is predicting a victory for the LNP, but Newman finds himself a $2.45 outsider to retain his seat of Ashgrove in what would be the ultimate celebration dampener.

The LNP government is priced at $1.25 to stay in power with Labor $3.80.

Should Campbell be unable to keep his job, Tim Nicholls is the $2.10 favourite to take over as LNP leader ahead of Scott Emerson ($2.75) and Lawrence Springborg ($7.00).

"Some experts are giving Labor a chance but punters don't agree. 80% of all money has gone on LNP despite the obvious public backlash against Premier Newman," said sportsbet.com.au's Christian Jantzen.
