Boys invited to trial for Wide Bay AFL team

AUSSIE RULES: Young players will have the opportunity to trial to represent Wide Bay at the Queensland School Sport championships.

Trials for the 10-12-year AFL boys' team will take place at Taabinga State School from 9am to 3pm on Friday, March 2.

The trials have been poorly attended in previous years and Jeff Neumenn, AFL Queensland regional manager for the Darling Downs, encourages all interested children to attend, regardless of their experience playing AFL.

"The best part about school trials is you don't have to just be an AFL player, rookie players from other codes can take part.

"We are looking for natural players who have basic hand-eye co-ordination and will be able to pick up kicking and handballing.”

The trials are the first step in selecting the Wide Bay team for the school sport championships.

The trials will be a basic set-up and allow selectors to see the players who have potential to develop.
