Burnett players impress at cricket trials

CRICKET: Players have once again proved that the South Burnett is a breeding ground for junior cricketers.

Nik Heness, Tom Currin and Charlotte Love have been selected to represent Wide Bay at the Queensland school sport championships.

The South Burnett under-12 team competed against teams from Gympie, Bundaberg, Maryborough, Hervey Bay and North Burnett at the at the Wide Bay trials in Gympie from September 8-11 to earn a spot in the representative team.

The players displayed their skill with bat and ball in 50 over games across four days of play.

The South Burnett boys side were defeated by Bundaberg in their first game before scoring a win against Maryborough.

Nik and Tom secured victory for South Burnett with a 75 run partnership and also opened the bowling for the team together proving their ability as all-rounders.

On the final day of play 24 players, including four South Burnett boys and five girls playing their place in the Wide Bay team.

Nik, Tom and Charlotte will now travel to Maryborough to attend training and play three games with the team before travelling to Townsville for the Queensland school sport championships in the first two weeks of November.
