Burnett road toll set to overtake last year's

THIS year's Burnett road toll has matched last year's fatality toll in less than five months.

The most recent crash, a fiery head-on collision outside of Kumbia on Monday night, claimed the lives of a Eli Waters mother Charmaine McLeod and her four children under the age of six.

There was then 11 people who lost their lives on Burnett roads during May alone.

Across the North Coast and Wide Bay-Burnett region there has been 19 fatalities this year from January 1 to May 26. This does not include the five fatalities in Kumbia on May 27.

In 2018, 20 people were killed on roads in the North Coast and Wide Bay-Burnett region for the same time period.

Last year, 12 people lost their lives on Burnett roads across the whole 12 months.
