Call for Baconfest barbecue champs for ultimate smoke-off
REGISTRATIONS are filling up quickly for this year's SunPork Smoke-Off at Kingaroy BaconFest.
The competition will be an official round of the Australasian Barbecue Alliance (ABA) sanctioned Championship Series.
The registrations opened midday on Monday, February 12, and have already had 14 teams sign on within the first 24 hours.
Chief Baconeer Kath Stevens said the SunPork Smoke-Off was a hugely successful component of the inaugural event in 2018.
"This time we're opening the comp to up to 50 teams,” she said.
This is the maximum number allowed by the ABA.
"This has the potential to put Kingaroy BaconFest up there with some of the biggest and most fiercely contested barbecue competitions in the country,” Ms Stevens said.
Competitors will fight for their share in $14,000 in the barbeque contest's prize pool.
This competition will be different to other barbecue contests around the world.
SunPork Fresh Foods will provide competitors with all the meat they need.
"This means all teams are on a level playing field,” she said.
"As far as we're aware, there's no other competition in Australia that does this.”
The barbecue competition will run in Kingaroy from 6am on Saturday, August 24.
The contest will run in conjunction with the Kingaroy BaconFest event which will run from August 23-25, 2019.
