Celebrity chef to cook up conversation at Christmas Luncheon

ATTENDEES are getting excited for Friday's Mayor's Community Christmas Luncheon, but no one more so than the special guest.

Celebrity chef Matt Golinski enjoys visiting the South Burnett and getting to know the farms and the food in the region.

"I get to know what's there and then I can build a picture in my my mind of what makes that area tick,” Mr Golinski said.

"Which as a chef is just the most beautiful and wonderful thing.”

The chef has a strong affiliation with the South Burnett and regularly purchases ingredients from our region for his Sunshine Coast-based restaurant.

"This time of year those peaches you have out there in Kumbia are just beautiful,” he said.

"I got the very first three cases from out there when they first started the season a month or so ago and they were just magical.”

"Then about a week later I heard the news about the storms that went through and I thought that was just awful.”

Mr Golinski said he was excited to visit Kingaroy and be involved in the Mayor's Community Christmas Luncheon.

"I have been out here many times, I love coming out this way,” he said.

"I am not doing any food, I'm just coming out to have a chat and be a guest which should be very nice.”

Entry to the event costs $25 per person and all proceeds from will be donated to South Burnett families in need during the Christmas period.

"I like saying yes to these things because I understand what it feels like to be the recipient of other people's care and love and that's a really powerful thing,” Mr Golinski said.

The head chef said one of the most enjoyable parts of the visit would be the drive to Kingaroy from his Sunshine Coast base.

"You guys are getting a little bit of this rain so hopefully it'll all start to spring to life,” he said.

Mr Golinski said while he was not going to be doing any cooking during this visit, he was already planning what dish he would make for next time.

"You guys have plenty of great ingredients out there other than peanuts,” he said.

"Maybe I would do a peach, pork and peanut dish.”

The Mayor's Community Christmas Luncheon is on tomorrow, Friday, December 7 from noon at the Kingaroy Town Hall.

Tickets will be available at the door, or you can book by calling the council on 4189 9100.
