Chelsea extends EPL lead as Leicester loses again
FOOTBALL: Chelsea was held to a 1-1 draw with Burnley at Turf Moor but still extended its lead to 10 points at the top of the English Premier League.
The news was not so good for defending champion Leicester City which broke two unwanted records in the top flight following a 2-0 loss at Swansea City to put it on the edge of the relegation places.
The Foxes became the first top-flight team in 51 years to lose five games in a row and the first to go six games without scoring at the top level.
Defeat leaves Claudio Ranieri's men one point off the bottom three in 19th spot and in danger of becoming the first English champions to go down the year after winning the title since Manchester City in 1938.
"I wanted the start of a 'new season' today, but it is the same, it is unbelievable," Ranieri said.
"We have to speak together to find the solutions, it is not possible to continue in this way.
"The machine is not broken but when you don't play at a maximum level it is a difficult battle.
"They were more determined than us, that's the truth."
Swansea, which is now 15th, four points clear of the relegation spots, took the lead through defender Alfie Mawson who fired in an unstoppable volley past Leicester keeper Casper Smeichel.
Smeichel had no chance with that goal but probably should have kept out Martin Olsson's left-footed strike which extended the home team's lead in first-half stoppage time.
Leicester only rarely threatened, with Lucasz Fabianski making one important save from Algerian striker Islam Slimani.
Chelsea, meanwhile, looked to be moving towards another win when Pedro struck after only seven minutes against Burnley.
But the home side showed why it is so difficult to beat at Turf Moor, equalising through debutant Robbie Brady's free-kick before dominating the second half.
Burnley, promoted last season, moved up one place to 12th and fully deserved a draw.
Sean Dyche's team has now earned 29 of its 30 points this season at home and restricted the EPL leader to only two shots on target including the goal.
