Clubs praise debut carnival

RUGBY LEAGUE: Visiting teams praised the organisers behind the under-35kg zone five carnival in Kingaroy.

It is the first of its kind to be hosted in the South Burnett and is a credit to the dedicated volunteers.

The carnival was a joint venture by the Murgon Mustangs and Kingaroy Red Ants, with the clubs joining forces to make it happen.

Carl Braithwaite managed the South Burnett team during the carnival and played a key role in organising the event.

The committee was proud to host such a successful carnival.

"The only complaint that I had was the weather and it wasn't too bad in the end, just a little bit wet,” Braithwaite said.

"Everything flowed really well and we got up the pointy end, which we are really happy with and as far as the organisation goes we hope we have raised a few funds.”

The committee held their first meeting in August 2017 and have been working towards the event since.

"We have been going since then and it all paid off in the end,” Braithwaite said.

"I can't thank the volunteers enough and the hours they have spent here, even when many of them don't have kids in the carnival themselves.”

The Eagles will travel to Cunnamulla next year to play in the carnival.
