Court tells man: 'Send your son to school'
A MURGON father has been fined after failing to ensure his son regularly went to school.
The man pleaded guilty in Murgon Magistrates Court on October 16 to a charge of the parent's obligation to ensure attendance.
Prosecutor Pepe Gangemi said the 15-year-old boy had been absent for a total of 38 days between January 21 and August 23.
The court heard the boy had also been on 25 suspensions for behavioural issues.
The defendant, who represented himself, said the son often played up at school and got suspended.
"I let him have a month off school,” he said.
Magistrate Louisa Pink said even though the son may be difficult to manage, he needed to go to school.
"There is the law, he is meant to go to school everyday,” she said.
The father was fined $500 and no convictions were recorded.
