Customer service with a boo

EVERYONE’S favourite Red Cross volunteer ladies have gone all out this Halloween in an effort to bring a smile to the faces of Blackbutt locals.

Barbara Kitchingman, Janelle Bannah, and Janice Gillespie were early to the party when they dressed up to surprise their customers two days before Halloween.

Ms Gillespie said they were quite well known around Blackbutt for their commitment to dressing up.

“We dress up a lot actually,” she said.

“For all kinds of fun events. It’s really just a lot of fun.

“Most recently we were pirates and then another time we were nurses from World War II.”

The ladies have all been volunteering two days a week at the Blackbutt Red Cross shop for the past four years now.

“We only work Monday and Tuesday but Halloween is Thursday so we decided we’d beat the rest of them to it,” Ms Gillespie said.

“We’ve got a few decorations up too.

“We dress up often. For as many things as we can. We aim to do it monthly.”

They were all in agreement it was worth it for the smiles their regular customers flashed when seeing them in costume.

“There’s no fundraising involved or anything but rather just to make someone’s day,” Ms Gillespie said.

“It’s just a lot of fun and all of the customers love it.

“We’ll have our regulars drop by and get photos with us,” she said.

“Or even come by with their kids or grandkids after school to get a picture with us all dressed up.”

Ms Gillespie said it was as good a day as any if they could make even just one customer smile.

If you’re in the neighbourhood, why not drop by the Blackbutt Red Cross shop next Tuesday when the ladies will be dressed to the nines for a day at the races.
