Day out at country races kicks off new season

RACING: Head out to the track and see country racing at its finest this weekend.

The Nanango Cup race day on Saturday will kick off the 2019/20 racing season.

Nanango Race Club secretary Leisa Green said they were expecting quite a big crowd.

"It should be a good day of races,” she said.

"It's a great day out and family friendly.”

There will be face-painting for younger race fans on the day.

The club have been using social media to try and involve younger crowds and let people know about the race days.

"We are always looking to draw bigger crowds out to the races each year,” Mrs Green said.

Saturday's six-race meet will kick off at 12.50pm as jockeys compete for the title in the first race, a maiden plate 1000m.

Racegoers are encouraged to come along and cheer on the South Burnett jockeys and those travelling to Nanango to compete.

The iconic fashions on the field competition will take a step towards modern times whilst encouraging racegoers to still dress in classic racewear.

Racegoers will don their best in classic black and white racewear.

However, they will compete by uploading a selfie to the Nanango Facebook or Instagram pages before 3pm.

Anonymous judges will then go through and choose the winners.

There will be plenty of seating available or racegoers are welcome to bring their own chairs or rug.

There will be a champagne bar, canteen and barbecue available on the day.

Racegoers are advised there is no ATM at the track and to come prepared with cash.

Entry prices will be $10 for adults and $5 for pensioners.

The gates will open at 10am at Lee Park on Racecourse Rd, Nanango.
