Dessert queen Emelia misses out on MasterChef grand final

EMELIA Jackson feels like a winner after the offer she received on MasterChef tonight.

Judge George Calombaris surprised the 24-year-old marketing co-ordinator with an invitation to work with his pastry team at his restaurant The Press Club.

"It was a complete surprise," Jackson told APN.

"I sort of stood there in shock. I didn't know what to say. I probably look stunned at the time. I wasn't expecting it.

"It's a really beautiful kitchen and the staff is incredible. It was a great experience."

Jackson, the show's "dessert queen", was eliminated after losing tonight's challenge to serve up her dream menu to 20 diners and the judges.

She admits she struggled to find inspiration for two courses that would impress the diners.

"I really struggled to come up with anything at all, any main or dessert, when I was trying to plan," she said.

"I got to call my mum and I was having a little freak out about it. She said 'you know what I went out for dinner the other night and had a really nice beef cheek'."

That conversation sparked Jackson's idea for her mandarin and chocolate glazed beef cheeks with a Jerusalem artichoke puree.

But it was Jackson's dessert - whipped chocolate ganache with a chocolate crumb, fig leaf ice cream and mandarin gel and mandarin curd - that sent her home.

"I know, can you believe it?" she said.

"I spent a lot of time planning my main and really getting it right."

Her elimination leaves 19-year-old university student Laura Cassai and skid steer operator Brent Owens to battle it out in tomorrow's grand final.

Jackson, meanwhile, plans to open her own café.

"I've been practicing making the style of desserts I want to sell, like domes and gateaus," she said.

"A huge highlight was Heston (Blumenthal) week. It was incredible getting to meet Heston and pick his brain."

The MasterChef grand final airs tomorrow at 7.30pm on Channel 10.
