Do we need more car parking in Kingaroy?
THE people have spoken.
Their priority coming out of public consultation for the Kingaroy Revitalisation Project is for the South Burnett Regional Council to improve the quality of car parking.
Mayor Keith Campbell said of the 30-odd responses council received, most emphasised the need to re-seal the car parks behind Kingaroy and Haly streets.
"The next highest was the provision of the parking for RVs and caravans and a dump point,” he said.
"If we were to put some on that provision of car parking behind the bank, the point I would make is this would be short-term park and not 24-48 hour parking.”
The feedback also called for more disabled car parking.
Fourth on the list was moving the Haly St pedestrian crossing to near the vacant block next to Raine and Horne Real Estate and a walkway to connect Kingaroy St with the Glendon St car park.
Cr Campbell said the least popular component was to close Glendon St and extend the Town Hall Forecourt.
"I would go so far as to say that if that is to be done, it would be the last cab off the rank,” he said.
Overall Cr Campbell was pleased with the response.
"They were very sensible and very structured,” said.
"The feedback has given council a pretty clear indication that the community is generally onside with the concept that has been put together.”
The step is for council to put together costing and create an amended plan based on the feedback.
Cr Campbell expects it will take a few months for the new plans to be released to the public.
