England hopeful of salvaging pride after T20 win
CRICKET: Moeen Ali grabbed the key wicket of Virat Kohli with the first ball he bowled to help set up a win for England in the first of three T20 internationals against India.
Moeen finished with impressive figures of 2-21 from four overs to restrict the home team to 7-147 in Kanpur.
In reply Sam Billings hit 20 from the second over, with captain Eoin Morgan (51) and Joe Root (46 not out) completing the chase in 18.1 overs.
The second of the three T20 matches is in Nagpur on Sunday, where the tourists will hope to wrap up the series win to salvage something from a miserable tour of the subcontinent.
After England bowled well, it needed to do the same with the bat and after Billings' opening blast, there was no way back for the home side.
Jasprit Bumrah was smashed for three fours and a ramped six as the visitors got off to the perfect start in the chase for victory.
England overcame a slight wobble when Billings and Roy were dismissed in the same over by legspinner Yuzvendra Chahal.
But Root, Morgan and - after the captain's dismissal - Ben Stokes led England home.
