Exhibition brings something a little different to town
SOUTH Burnett artist Robyn Dower's latest exhibition is opening this Friday night (August 10) at the Kingaroy art gallery.
Doors open at 6pm.
Ms Dower's exhibition A Little Left of Centre is made up of more than 30 papier-mache sculptures, and over 30 paintings.
"My work has always had a little bit of a quirky twist to it,” Ms Dower said.
Ms Dower said this exhibition re-purposes ideas in ways we are not used to.
"My aim is to make the viewer look a little harder, think a little harder and question a little harder, using subjects that we can all relate to.
"It's taking what I normally do, and what people expect and then making it into something completely different. Something that shocks them,” Ms Dower said.
Her upcoming exhibition is a follow on from her last, 'A Sense of Wonder.'
"I really just love seeing people's reactions as my work carries on from the last lot or changes. Especially it it's a smile or a smirk.
"Seeing a smile makes me feel like I've done my job. That's all I want out of this. To make people feel something. That's the whole point of art,” Ms Dower said.
Ms Dower is just one of the many talented artists living in The South Burnett.
"I'm so looking forward to this and I really think it's important. The South Burnett has loads of talented people and it's important to showcase them and their work.
"It's important to support your locals. I really think there's something for everyone at the Kingaroy art gallery. I can't wait to see everyone there,” Ms Dower said.
