Extra officers deployed to patrol Nambour CBD
NAMBOUR will have an increased police presence in its CBD with the deployment of extra officers to help curb the rising crime rates in town.
Business owners say thefts, robberies and general anti-social behaviour have plagued the town for months.
More than 2000 people have signed an online petition calling for a permanent police beat in the heart of the town.
Officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Gary Brayley said two officers from Maroochydore and the Tactical Crime Squad were coming over for a period of about five or six weeks.
“Some people in the CBD don’t feel safe, so having a police presence does certainly create the heightened feeling of safety,” Snr-Sgt Brayley said.
“It’s not a new strategy and they aren’t stationed here, they will just provide beat patrols to deal with any anti-social behaviour.
“We will run it for about five or six weeks and then assess the benefits or change the strategy and focus.”
