Family and friends mourn the death of South Mackay teen

MACKAY police District Duty Officer Senior Sergeant Mark Dwyer said initial investigations suggested the young man had come off the Honda CB 400cc bike and he and the sedan collided.

Snr Sgt Dwyer said the collision occurred at an "s-bend" in the road.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Service and Queensland Ambulance Services crews attended the scene, which was between Balnagowan Mandarana and Coxs Rds.

Paramedics performed resuscitation efforts on the teenager, but he could not be revived.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, Snr Sgt Dwyer said.

There were two occupants in the sedan and they were not physically injured in the fatal crash.

QFES and QAS crews were already at the crash location when police arrived.

Snr Sgt Dwyer said the roads had been dry at the time of the collision, but it started to rain after police attended.

Traffic diversions were in place while emergency services were on scene.

Police have informed the young man's family about the incident.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the traffic collision.
