Full rodeo returns to Great Western Hotel after 12 years
KIWI cowboys Davey Green and Callum Tahau were barely on Australian soil when they were told to get mucking in for the biggest rodeo at the Great Western Hotel.
The Hawkes Bay saddle bronc riders are doing odd jobs across several Central Queensland cattle properties and places.
One such job is preparing the arena at the Great Western Hotel for the first Beef City Invitational Full Rodeo at the south side tavern arena in 12 years.

Davey and Callum are in Australia for more than two months to get a feel for the Beef Capital's way of working in the cattle and equine industries.
The hotel's new owners, Colin and Vickie Bowden (who bought the business last year), wanted to bring a full rodeo back to the Great Western. That meant getting some restoration and expansion works underway.
These included about $250,000 worth of work expanding the existing arena to allow the space for four roping events, sealing parts of the arena with concrete and restoring other facilities. On top of that is the installation of new big screen televisions in the centre of the arena.
About 2000 people are expected to attend, and about 120 competitors from across Australia will take part in the full rodeo.
The rodeo will be held on May 9. Junior and rookies are up at 5pm, followed by the seniors from 7.30pm.
This weekend, the Great Western is hosting the Young Guns and Top Guns events on Friday and Saturday night respectively.
