GALLERY: Complex’s new look attracts large crowd
THE unveiling of the refurbishment of Kingaroy's IGA has brought shopping in the region to a 'new level'.
The new supermarket and shopping complex was officially opened by South Burnett mayor, Keith Campbell on Saturday morning.
Cr Campbell said the new complex was 'absolutely great for the region'.
"These sort of complexes really bring the town and the region to a new level that fulfils what it is that shoppers are looking for," he said.
Cr Campbell said there was really no reason why residents would need to go out of the region to do their shopping.
"I know other people who have moved to our region from other locations and they say there isn't anything they need that can't be satisfied through the shops in Kingaroy," Cr Campbell said.
The complex opening was abuzz with large numbers of South Burnett families coming out to enjoy free samples, balloons, give-aways and more during the Family Fun Day.
Kingaroy SUPA IGA manager, Trace O'Neill said the new supermarket has added a new focus on local products and catering to the health conscious shopper.
"The biggest change is the fruit and vegetable area," he said.
"We've brought the prep area out onto the floor so customers can see the preparation of the fruit and vegies all the time."
"We are stocking local community things like Kingaroy biscuits, and Picky Picky peanuts from local farmers," Mr O'Neill said.
"We are trying to spread the local love."
