WOULD there be a BaconFest without a bacon eating competition?

Competitors from the South Burnett, and visitors from all over Australia, lined up for the glory of winning the bacon eating competition at the inaugural Kingaroy BaconFest on Saturday August 25.

They approached the table of plates of sizzling bacon, freshly prepared by South Burnett food ambassador Jason Ford.

The young and the old took on the challenge in Lard Lane.

Former vegan Ben Mienert won the competition after eating his way through four rounds and the finals.

The winning prize for the competition was 2kg of bacon every month for a year.

The competitions will keep going with the SunPork Smoke-Off Competition starting from 5pm on Saturday at the BaconFest food markets.

The Smoke-Off, which consists of categories of pork belly, beef ribs, pork ribs, port and chicken, will continue on Sunday at the Judges tent from 8am to 2pm.

The winners of the SunPork competition will be announced at The Comm Pub at 4pm on Sunday.
