Gold Logie winner brings tears and laughter to our region

ONE of Australia's most popular actors was in Kingaroy Monday night and he brought his Gold Logie along for the ride.

Star of Secret Life of Us and Molly, Samuel Johnson wowed the sold-out crowd at The Commercial Hotel as part of his national Love Your Sister fundraising tour.

It was a night of emotional highs and lows as the Gold Logie winner had the crowd in tears of sadness one minute and bursts of uncontrollable laughter the next.

Johnson has visited more than 1200 towns in the past seven years, but Monday night was his first visit to Kingaroy.

With his sister Hilda and hard-working support crew, Johnson has plunged into a two-year long lap around Australia to raise funds and awareness for the Love Your Sister foundation.

He started the not-for-profit organisation with his late sister Connie, who had a very public battle with breast cancer.

His mission is to remind every mum across the country to be breast aware.

"Check your boobs,” he said.

And to keep his long-held promise to his sister to raise $10 million for cancer research.

To welcome the 2019 Dancing with the Stars champion to our region, Johnson was presented with products from some of the South Burnett's finest exports, The Peanut Van and Kingsley Grove Winery.

He was amazed at how thoughtful and generous people have been throughout this travels.

"People make me lovely stuff. They knit me stuff and crochet me little love hearts,” he said.

"They write on rocks, it's just the most incredible thing.”

Johnson isn't a stranger to long trips around the country in his quest to raise funds for such a worthy cause.

In 2013, he covered 15,995kms unicycling around Australia raising nearly $1.5 million for the charity.

"All in or fold mate, I don't do anything in halves,” he said.

The sold-out Kingaroy event was a huge success with a whopping $5228.91 raised from the evening, proving once again South Burnett residents are some of the most generous in the country.
