'Gourdness' gracious, foodies will be well fed at Goomeri

FOODIES will be well catered for at this year's Goomeri Pumpkin Festival which features celebrity chefs, cooking demonstrations and food trucks on the menu.

Goomeri Pumpkin Festival co-ordinator Kim Boyter said regional food ambassador from the South Burnett, Jason Ford, and regional food ambassador from Gympie, Matt Golinski, would be holding demonstrations at a food and cooking area.

"Each ambassador will be cooking with the foods of their region, and so we'll be advertising the local produce from both the South Burnett and Gympie," Ms Boyter said.

Hayley Maudsley, the author of the My Smoko Break recipe book, will also be on hand.

When it comes to food stalls for the general public, Ms Boyter said there would be plenty to choose from.

"We always try and put in a really diverse range to cater for everyone's likes and dislikes, so we have close to 30 food trucks and vendors, plus local community caterers," she said.

The festival will also feature up to 220 general trading stalls, making it a grand market experience.

Ms Boyter said the popularity of the festival meant accommodation bookings were already coming in for surrounding towns.

"I can confirm that both caravan parks in Murgon, Barambah Bush and the BP dam, are almost at capacity, and all accommodation in Goomeri is completely booked out," she said.

"We already have about 200 caravans interested in coming around too, so the local traffic has been great. It's the driving force of the festival."

Be sure to check out the fun of festival from May 23 to 27.
