If you can't get a doctor appointment this may help

IN THE new year pressure on Kingaroy's GPs should ease, with Taabinga Family Practice due to open its doors on January 10.

Born and bred Kingaroy doctor, Emma Leu-Marshall, will run the practice with the help of her husband.

"We've certainly had a few people interested in the practice,” Dr Leu-Marshall said.

Dr Leu-Marshall is currently a flying doctor based in Charleville and she said setting up a practice from 600km away has come with a unique set of challenges, meaning the opening date may change.

"We'll know before Christmas when we can open,” she said.

In the coming weeks patients will be able to register online.

"Ideally that would start before Christmas, if not it would start immediately after Christmas.”

With the Eduardestrete doctor out of action the other surgeries are looking to help out.

Markwell Medical practice manage Sonia Champney said she had taken several Eduardstete patients.

"Markwell Medical has liaised with them to accommodate their urgent cases needing specific, urgent treatments,” Ms Champney said.

"We are happy to try and assist patients who are in need of repeat prescriptions or urgent appointments, on a temporary basis, until Eduardestrete Medical Practice can see them, or they join another practice.”

Ms Champney said the other practices were doing the same.
