Illicit trader generates concern

THERE have been reports of an unmarked white van in the Mundubbera area trying to sell electricity generators from its boot.

The Office of Fair Trading issued the warning to consumers this morning, shortly after receiving the information.

"Goods sold out of the back of a vehicle are usually overpriced, damaged or do not live up to what's promised,” the office said.

"Buyers have no way to get a refund or exchange if the item is faulty, as car boot traders usually vanish after the sale.”

Although the office was not able to reveal how many reports had been received, a spokesman said, as they take this kind of conduct very seriously, they may issue a warning based off a single report from the public.

Division 3 councillor Faye Whelan said she hadn't heard anything, although she was currently not in town.

"I hope somebody tracks them down and tells them to leave our region,” Cr Whelan said.

Anyone who has seen this van is urged to contact the office on 137468 so their movements can be tracked.
