New restaurants set to follow Malaysia House into Rocky CBD
MALAYSIA House is firing up on Bolsover St, with the new restaurant piquing the interest of plenty of locals.
Rockhampton Food Rater Facebook page administrator Mitch Crane said Rockhampton was really making a mark in the food scene.
"It is looking pretty good at the moment, everyone is eager for the new and exciting things to come along," he said.
"We have a great variety with the Asian places, cafes, restaurants and pubs."
Mitch said the local region was proving to be a "hot spot" with rumoured developments on the foodie scene on the way.
Word is Mexican specialist Zambrero is looking at expanding to the south side as is Nando's, famous for its Portuguese flame-grilled chicken, and Townsville's Sakana Japanese restaurant also has its eyes on the Beef Capital.
This is all on top of Stockland's The Terrace food precinct.
"It is great; it shows that we are a growing and developing food cultural hot spot," he said.
"I think earlier this year people were really worried, there was a spree of businesses closing and a lot of people were getting very nervous.
"And six months later we had a fair amount of places opening and a lot of potential new places coming."
With Max Brenner and Guzman Y Gomez set to hit Stockland, Mitch said it was hard to pick which he was more excited about.
"I'm excited to get the Guzman Y Gomez, the Gladstone one is really good," he said. "The Max Brenner post on Food Rater was probably the most-liked post in the history."
Rockhampton has jumped forward in leaps and bounds since 2007, when the town boasted 72 take-away stores and only 48 restaurants, according to the Yellow Pages.
However now, 97 restaurants have quickly overtaken 79 fast food stores.
Mackay now boasts more than one restaurant for every fast food store, with 150 restaurants and only 62 fast foods listed in the Yellow Pages.
Gladstone has 22 restaurants with 30 take-aways.
