Gym says sorry for calling Oscar Pistorius 'inspirational'

JETTS Booval have learnt a valuable lesson: when you're trying to motivate gym members, don't do it by endorsing a convicted killer.

The fitness studio came under fire this week, when a staff member posted a picture of South African Paralympic athlete Oscar Pistorius on the gym's Facebook page.

In the picture, Pistorius is training alongside a quadruple amputee toddler.

Under the image a caption reads: "So you worked a 12-hour day? So you need to cook dinner? So you're lacking motivation? So what?"

The post created controversy as Pistorious was recently sentenced to five years in jail for culpable homicide of girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

It generated a flood of complaints with people who wrote that the disgraced athlete was "not inspirational" and the post was in "poor taste".

Quickly responding to the barrage of negative feedback, the fitness centre removed the post with an apology.

"All posts are uploaded with the intent to inspire and motivate," Jetts Booval wrote.

"The point of the image was not to create controversy but to inspire people with a paralympian training alongside an amputee toddler.

In hindsight, the business admitted that Pistorious image wasn't well thought out and thanked people for their feedback.
