JOBS: 10 Coast jobs you can apply for now

A Coast senior human resource management practitioner says jobs are “scarce” due to COVID-19, but encourages job seekers to “think outside of the box” when looking for employment.

EastCoast Human Resource Group managing director Michalle Faulkner said COVID-19 “significantly impacted” many businesses and their workers.

“Many people have lost their businesses and lost their jobs … there are a lot of people looking for work,” she said.

“There are a lot of downturn in hospitality and tourism, certainly jobs are scarce on the Sunshine Coast.”

While the climate is “tough” Ms Faulkner said there were positions available, particularly in booming industries.

“Looking for a job is a job in itself,” she said.

“I think having perseverance and being flexible is important because people are trying to adapt to a lot of change, so it’s beneficial if you can be flexible.

“Be willing to think outside of the box and take on roles that maybe aren’t a complete match to your skill set, there might be other opportunities once you have a foot in the door … because the employer will identify that you have other skills and capacity as well.

“It’s also about looking at what sectors are still booming, the community space sector, essential services, support workers, those sectors are critical.”

She said COVID-19 could provide a rare opportunity for people to change their career path.

“There are a lot of training initiatives, we are seeing more and more support packages in terms of upskilling and discounted courses for people, so it’s a great opportunity for people to think ‘was I happy in the role I was in and should I do a change to something else?’,” she said.
