Kingaroy Soccer Club's huge Christmas gift
KINGAROY Soccer Club received an impressive Christmas present this year.
The Red Backs have secured a grant of $140,800 for the construction of new change rooms.
Under the Queensland Government's Get Playing Places and Spaces program, the Kingaroy sports club was thrilled with the news of their successful application.
Former president of the club and grants officer, Mick North said this funding meant the club would be one of the best in the country.
"If you provide the facilities you'll get the games,” he said.
"We have spent a lot of money on the ground.
"We have competition grade lights, undercover viewing area, underground sprinklers, we are working our way towards becoming one of the best country fields out there.”
The new change rooms will mean female players will have their own individual showers, toilets and disability facilities.
"When we have visiting teams play matches from Toowoomba they are quite amazed we have such an impressive complex,” he said.
Mr North, who has been involved with the club for 38 years, said the club had come a very long way over the years.
"The standard of fields are wonderful but it hasn't just happened over night,” he said.
"It's been the dream to get to where we are now.”
The former president said he assumed work on the new change rooms would commence in late February 2019 and be complete in time for the 2020 season.
