Kingaroy students shine at Fanfare competition

YOUNG South Burnett musicians have played against 20,000 Queensland students for their place in the grand final of Fanfare.

South Burnett high school and primary students from around the South Burnett played in the Darling Downs South West regional festival on Thursday June 7, as part of the state-wide Fanfare competition.

Kingaroy State High School instrumental music teacher Matt Phillips said the South Burnett students played very well.

"Some of the stuff they were producing is very high quality and as a teacher it makes me feel very proud to stand in front of them,” he said.

Kingaroy State High School's symphonic, brass and stage band all finished with gold awards from the regional competition, Mr Phillips said.

The school's stage band and brass band will move to the next level and join three other school bands for the Toowoomba regional finals on June 22, for their chance to be nominated for the grand final concert.

"The kids from Kingaroy State High, they hold their own against the big city schools and it's very impressive what these country kids can do,” he said.
