
Kingaroy volleyball star inches closer to Games gold
KINGAROY'S Taliqua Clancy and her partner Mariafe Artacho del Solar are a step closer to gold at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games after a convincing quarter-final victory.
The beach volleyball competitors defeated Rwanda's Charlotte Nzayisenga and Denyse Mutatsimpundu 21-9, 21-8 on Tuesday afternoon on Coolangatta Beach.
The win puts them in firm medal contention, as they prepare to take on Vanuatu in the semi-finals on Wednesday night.
A win places them in the gold medal match, while a loss would see them compete for the bronze on Thursday night.
Vanuatu's Miller Pata and Linline Matauatu pushed through to the semi-final in a nail-biting match against English competitors Victoria Palmer and Jessica Grimson.
Australia and Vanuatu will compete at 7.30pm on Wednesday.
