Koala rescued from precarious position

ROSS Champney could not believe his eyes when he came home this afternoon to find a koala in the front yard.

"I came up the driveway and I saw it running past the fence and up the tree," he said.

Luckily for the wandering koala Mr Champney was there to lock the dogs inside the house and contact Neale Ambler for his second rescue in two days.

But it was not a simple rescue.

The koala's exposed position combined with being swooped by a pair of angry magpies and human attention made the animal nervous and reluctant to be guided down the tree.

"It (the rescue) was a bit difficult because he was just very frightened," Mr Ambler said.

The koala has been taken to a wildlife hospital to be checked over.
