HEADLAND Golf Club is expected to be closed until later this week with serious damage to its course, following Sunday’s destructive 15-minute storm.

Former president and club member John Alsbury said huge trees were felled in the storm, damaging the 13th hole the most.

However, in a heartwarming gesture, he said about 70 volunteers had pitched in to help clear the debris from the course.

But with a tree-lopping machine costing $600 per hour, Mr Alsbury said the cost would be considerable.
