Long straight and big wins
RACING: South Burnett jockey Hannah Philips looks forward to the Kumbia Races each year.
She said the Kumbia track differed from others.
"It has got a really long straight in comparison to other tracks in the region,” Philips said.
"It gives everyone a fairer chance at the end and an opportunity to put their best foot forward.
"It tends to be a survival of the fittest as well because a lot of the horses are used to racing on a shorter straight so the form guide isn't necessarily your best guide for bigger tracks.”
Kumbia Race Club president Brian Lenihan was thankful for the effort of the club's volunteers.
"We have had a wonderful crowd, it is a wonderful community and that track is perfect,” he said.
There are close to 100 volunteers with bar staff, the P and C, the barrier attendance, the announcers and only about six volunteers get paid.
"Now we have to wait 12 months for another one.”
