Mackay’s own NBL star chooses Rockhampton instead

TODD Blanchfield has spurned the chance to rejoin his hometown club and instead signed with a fierce rival for the upcoming NBL1 North season.

Late last year, Mackay Meteors coach Joel Khalu had intimated his desire to bring Todd Blanchfield back to The Crater for 2020.

Instead, the 200cm swingman will be taking his talents to Hegvold Stadium.

The Rockhampton Rockets announced this morning they had signed the Mackay product for the inaugural 2020 NBL1 North campaign.

Rockhampton beat out the Meteors and Townsville Heat for Blanchfield’s signature.

Illawarra Hawks NBL skipper Blanchfield last played for the Meteors in 2018.

His first stint with the Meteors came in 2007, when he was just 15.
