61yo blows how much over the limit?
THERE were no serious crashes overnight on New Year's, but police were 'disgusted' after arresting a 61-year-old man allegedly caught driving while four times the legal alcohol limit.
Constable Rick Flynn from Calliope Road Policing Unit said police are disappointed at the number of traffic offenders detected overnight and early on New Year's Day.
He said the Bracewell man was arrested with an alcohol reading of .208 at 2am while behind the wheel of his car on the Bruce Highway 5km south of Mount Larcom.
The alleged high-range drink driver will appear in Gladstone Magistrates Court in February.
Const Flynn said its New Year's Eve traffic operation in Gladstone also detected three drivers who tested positive to drugs.
Their tests are now being analysed to determine whether any charges should be laid.
He said Calliope police detected a low-range drink driver as did the Road Policing Unit.
Gladstone police also detected one or two offenders.
Const Flynn said police are also investigating a single vehicle crash into a road safety barrier on the Dawson Highway near Phillip St.
Gladstone officer Snr Sgt Jim Vogler said it had been quite a good night for police with the new year revellers well behaved.
He said there had been two arrests for public nuisance offences at Agnes Water and police had received a few reports about fireworks being set off.
Snr Sgt Vogler knew of five incidents involving drink drivers in the Gladstone patrol area and there had been about six domestic violence-related incidents which mainly involved arguments or breaches of a DVO.
