Man blocked from store because of Down syndrome

ELECTRONICS retailer JB HiFi is investigating claims a security guard at one of its Brisbane stores did not allow a customer to enter the store based on the fact he had Down syndrome. 

The young man's sister Victoria Milne took to Facebook to draw attention to the discrimination. 

When Victoria and James (who has Down syndrome) and their father walked into the Mt Ommaney store, a security guard immediately stepped in front of James and said he could not go in. 

"My dad, confused, asked "Why not?" and the security guard said that he had my brother's photo and he wasn't allowed in.

"The security guard goes through his phone to find a photo of the young man that they think is my brother.

"When my dad and the manager are shown a photo of a white male who also had Down's syndrome, my dad says it's clearly not James, who has olive skin, and the manager replied "well they look the same"."

The manager then allegedly still refused entry to James. 

"I have never been so disgusted and mad in my life," Victoria wrote on Facebook yesterday.

Victoria's post has had more than 74,000 Likes on Facebook and 48,000 shares.   

JB HiFi has since apologised and says it will investigate the accusations.
