MAJOR BUST: 8 people nabbed in alleged stolen car sting

UPDATE WEDNESDAY 11.45AM: POLICE have revealed even more people have been arrested over an alleged stolen car bust in the Rockhampton CBD yesterday morning. 

Rockhampton Senior Sergeant Kelly Hanlen confirmed a further four people had been arrested over the string on incidents. 

"At approximately 9am on Tuesday, February 4, off duty police employees observed suspicious vehicles in Bolsover Lane, Rockhampton with no registration plates," Snr Sgt Hanlen said. 

"Police attended the location and observed a black Holden Commodore allegedly driving dangerously from the location.

"Police attempted to intercept the vehicle that evaded police and the vehicle was later involved in a traffic crash at the intersection of Fitzroy and Alma Streets, Rockhampton. Police later identified this vehicle as stolen.

"A 23-year-old man ran from the vehicle however was apprehended a short distance away."

"Police conducted further investigations which led them to a local motel in the area where they located another stolen vehicle and a number of persons of interest.

"Police arrested three men and two women at this address in relation to a number of drug and property related offences.

"Further investigations led police to attend an address at Koongal where they located two more women involved in the matter.

"As a result of numerous inquiries and investigations, police charged a further eight persons."

ARRESTS AND CHARGES

  • A 23-year-old Sarina man was charged with drug offences, assault occasioning bodily harm, unlawful use of motor vehicle, evade and dangerous driving and property offences. He will appear in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court today.
  • A 36-year-old man was charged with evade and driving offences, property offences and fail to appear. He will appear in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court today.
  • A 31-year-old Gracemere man was charged with major possession of dangerous drugs and obstruct police. He will appear in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court today.
  • A 21-year-old Fairy Bower woman was charged with unlawful use of motor vehicle and receiving tainted property. She will appear in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court on February 21.
  • A 30-year-old woman was charged with unlawful use of motor vehicle. She will appear in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court on February 19.
  • A 26-year-old Norman Gardens woman was charged with unlawful use of motor vehicle. She will appear in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court on February 19.
  • A 43-year-old woman was also charged with bail offences. She will appear in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court on February 12.

UPDATE 4.15PM: FOUR people have been arrested and a number of stolen vehicles located after a dramatic series of events in the Rockhampton CBD this morning.

Just after 9am, police were called to the intersection of Fitzroy and Alma Street after a black Holden Commodore crashed into traffic lights.

A man, from Sarina south of Mackay, allegedly fled the scene on foot but was chased down by police and arrested a block away at the intersection of Alma and Denham Streets.

The intersection was blocked for some time as scenes of crime officers carried out investigations into the crash and examined the unregistered vehicle, which was believed to be stolen.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman confirmed the 23-year-old Sarina man was treated by paramedics before being taken to Rockhampton Watchhouse.

At time of publication, he had not been charged with any offences and investigations were ongoing.


Shortly after the crash, police were tipped off about suspicious activity at the nearby Hampton Villa Motel.
Multiple police crews attended the complex on the corner of Alma and Albert streets and Bolsover Lane where they reportedly found multiple stolen vehicles including a motorbike and a silver Mitsubishi Mirage.

"A 21-year-old Fairy Bower woman and 31-year-old Gracemere man were arrested around 9.30am at a motel on Alma Street," the police spokeswoman said.

"The man was charged with one count of possessing dangerous drugs and one count of obstruct police.
"The woman was charged with one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, receiving tainted property, possessing dangerous drugs, fail to take reasonable care and precautions in respect of syringe or needle and possess utensils or pipes etc for use.

"Both the man and woman will appear in Rockhampton Magistrates Court tomorrow (Wednesday)."

A second woman allegedly fled from  the motel in a stolen orange Toyota Camry, taken from a Mackay home at 5.15am Sunday.

The vehicle, which was allegedly involved in an incident in Macalister St, Mackay about 2pm Monday where a woman was struck and injured, was later found dumped on Saunders St, Koongal.

A 26-year-old Norman Gardens woman allegedly linked to the vehicle has been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

She will appear in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on February 19. 

UPDATE 2.45PM: POLICE have reportedly located the stolen orange Camry which was outstanding from this morning's incident. 

It is understood a woman has been arrested in relation to the alleged incident. 

UPDATE 12PM: POLICE are still searching for an orange Camry linked to this morning's crash and stolen car bust in the Rockhampton CBD. 

The vehicle was allegedly stolen from a Mackay home in the early hours of Sunday morning, before being involved in multiple incidents. 

It is understood the car was stolen at 5.15am. 

Reports suggest a woman later intercepted the car, before being squished between two vehicles and suffering injuries. 

The woman was taken to hospital, where she is recovering. 

Police are reportedly on foot, searching for the stolen car in Rockhampton after it was allegedly ditched by a female offender earlier this morning. 

UPDATE 9.35AM: IN A DRAMATIC twist to this morning's earlier crash at the intersection of Alma and Fitzroy Streets, reports suggest police have located at least a further two stolen vehicles related to the incident. 

Police have arrested a man at the corner of Alma and Denham Streets after he allegedly crashed a stolen black Commodore. 

Shortly after the crash, police received information of suspicious activity outside the Hampton Villa Motel and in the lane way behind the VidaFit gym. 

Police responded and found an allegedly stolen motorbike taken from Mackay yesterday, along with potentially a stolen silver Mitsubishi Mirage. 

Police have arrested four people at the scene.   

 

 

UPDATE 9.20AM: POLICE have caught a man allegedly involved in a crash at the intersection of Alma and Fitrzoy Streets. 

After a short foot chase, police caught the man at the intersection of Alma and Denham Streets. He is being questioned and assessed for any injuries. 

As a result of the crash, the traffic lights at the intersection of Fitzroy Street and Alma Street are flashing amber. 

TMR crews have been alerted and police are directing traffic. 

INITIAL: POLICE are chasing a man through the Rockhampton CBD after a dramatic crash.

Reports indicate a black Commodore has crashed into a pole at the intersection of Alma and Fitzroy Streets, with the male driver running from the scene.

It is understood police were searching for the vehicle earlier this morning.

Police are engaged in a foot chase with the man.
