Meet South Burnett's newest cops on the beat

"USE commonsense."

Those were the words of Murgon officer-in-charge, Senior Sergeant Steven Stewart when addressing his new recruits.

Constable Emma Carruthers and Probationary Constable Alex Weeks started at the Murgon Police Station recently.

Cnst Weeks was proud to be walking in the same footsteps as his father.

He said there were a few big differences from training in the Queensland Police Service Academy to working at a real station.

"Probably just the way you communicate with the general public," he said.

"At the Academy it is very formalised."

Former hairdresser Cnst Carruthers said her previous experiences had been a huge asset in her role as a police officer.

"Communication is everything," she said.

"People come to you with problems in both areas."

Snr Sgt Stewart said his advice for new recruits was simple.

"If you're doing the right thing, then you'll be OK," he said.
