Meet the latest candidate to run in 2020 election
"IT'S something I have always wanted to do but now it finally feels like the right time."
Those are the words mother of two Kirstie Schumacher said after she announced her nomination to run as a candidate for division 4 councillor in the March 2020 election.
As a lifelong resident who grew up in Blackbutt, she said the region had great potential and her focus would be on building relationships that work towards driving positive change.
"I am really keen to understand the perspectives of others in our community," Mrs Schumacher said.
"I don't have all of the answers but if we can work together, I am sure we will create a better future for everyone."
Mrs Schumacher said the decision to put her hand up for the position was not just for herself, but for her family.
"I recognise if I was elected it would be a huge change for our family," she said.
"We do everything together, so it was really important to have their support.
"My husband has always been my biggest supporter.
"I thought really long and hard about this decision and haven't second guessed myself once.
"It's not just about me, but also about my kids and helping to shape their future as well as many others in the South Burnett."
Mrs Schumacher said she wanted to thank her family at Stanwell Corporation for their support and commitment to her growth and development.
For the past five years she has worked as a community relations adviser at Tarong Power Station and Meandu Mine.
"My time with Stanwell has allowed me to develop and build relationships, learn from the perspectives of others, earn trust by influencing change and create partnerships that support our community's way of life," she said.
"At Christmas I will be taking leave from my role and I plan to start the New Year by knocking on doors and meeting with the residents of division 4.
"For me, the role councillors play within our community is an important one, it is more than a title or pay cheque, it's a full time job founded on serving others and creating something more.
"I am excited about the opportunity to ask for division 4's support and I will be taking a fresh, personable approach by doing things differently and having a little fun too," she said.
