Murgon footy star shows spirit in floods

DURING times of hardship, the community comes together to lend a hand and that's exactly what North Queensland Cowboys player Gavin Cooper has done during the Townsville floods.

Cooper has been affected himself by the flood as well as his team mates and has been pictured alongside Scott Bolton lending a hand.

Bolton has been helping rescue his team mates in his boat, one example of how the Cowboys have been working together.

"Today is about taking a head count and making sure everyone is accounted for and is safe and secure,” Cowboys coach Paul Green told NRL.com.

"The second thing is about organising some short-term accommodation for everyone.

"A lot of the guys - staff and players included - live in Idalia which is right in the centre of the worst part of the flooding.”

Green said they have evacuated the players from their homes and put into accommodation as they prepare for the rain to continue.

"It is the worst flood they have ever had and it is not finished yet. We have still got more rain coming. It is about to get heavier today and continue up until Sunday,” he said.
