Music lovers rock out at Nanango Showgrounds

FORGET fairy floss and animal exhibits, the Nanango Showgrounds were transformed into the region's hottest dance party at the weekend, featuring rockabilly style, memorabilia, music and plenty of dancing at the annual Waterhole Rocks event.

Committee member Terry Mackrell said the event was a huge success, despite some wet weather.

"The storm hit us on Friday night and there was a bit of damage but nothing really serious," he said.

"We probably had about the same amount of tickets purchased, entrants and caravans as last year.

"Bums were on all of the seats and the dance floor was full at all times."

This year the committee also trialled a new system.

"We did this new thing where we gave out yellow wrist bands to anyone who was single or happy to dance with anyone," Mr Mackrell said.

"So pretty much anyone without a designated dancing partner. It worked really well - definitely something we're going to run again next year."
