New club ready to make their mark with poultry show

AS THE only Bantam Club currently in Queensland, Murgon will be rustling a few feathers in the poultry industry this weekend.

Murgon & District Bantam Club Inc will be hosting their first Bantam show on Sunday, May 5.

Club member Denis Dowdle said they were presently the only bantam club in Queensland, which was formed in March this year.

He said entries for the show had been flying in.

They decided the poultry exhibition would only feature bantams, rather than other types of large fowls.

"We haven't got enough pens for all breeds of fowls," he said.

Judging will commence from 9am at the Murgon Showgrounds on Sunday morning.

They have received more than 300 entries and have had to turn some entries away.

"Support from exhibitors and businesses has been overwhelming," Mr Dowdle said.

They have had exhibitors from the South Burnett, Hervey Bay, Maryborough, Gympie, Esk and Toowoomba interested in the show.

There will be a junior encouragement award at the show for any young people interested in poultry showing.

"New exhibitors and breeders are welcome, we want to encourage young people into the new hobby," he said.

"It's a great hobby, you meet a lot of people and travel a lot of places."

People are welcome to come along and have a look at the entrants.

Presentations will be held from 2.30pm and a canteen will be operating throughout the day.
