New events for Wondai's running festival
THIS year's Wondai Country Running Festival has not one, but two new running events.
Held along South Burnett's picturesque rail trail, participants can register for the many popular running events.
Including the sometimes gruelling 42.2km Marathon, 21.1km Half marathon.
And two 10km cross-country trail run through the McEuen forest adjoining Wondai.
Committee member, Ros Heit said they included the new events to be more family focused.
"We want to be an event for everybody,” she said.
The first new event is the Crow FM Dash for Cash.
It is a 1km event, running straight up the rail trail.
"The rail trail is all bitumen, it's such a good running surface,” Heit said.
The zippy entrants will run like the wind in an attempt to be the first runner to the finish line and take home a cool $100, or $50 for second.
The second new event is the South Burnett CTC All Abilities race.
All participants in the 1km event will take home a participation medal.
Wheelchairs and carers are welcome in the 1km event, but no motorised vehicles.
Heit said they were expecting a significantly bigger event then last year where they had just shy of 300 registered entrants.
"Our online entries are all ready up on last year,” she said.
"We have more half-marathoners and 10km runners.”
Heit said they were expecting around 350 entrants for one of the South Burnett's largest running festivals.
"It depends on how many register for the fun run event,” she said.
"We just want everyone to have a great day and enjoy it.”
Cyclists have not been forgotten and there will be a mountain bike activity across the weekend as well.
The Wondai Running Festival is held in conjunction with Wondai's Country Festival.
"We are looking forward to welcoming lots of people to Wondai,” Heit said.
First aid facilities will be available in Wondai and on the courses.
As well as regular toilet facilities and drinks stations along the way.
The Wondai Running Festival and the Wondai Country Festival will be held on Saturday, June 22 and Sunday, June 23.
