New policy an option for struggling ratepayers
SOUTH Burnett Regional Council would like to remind ratepayers there is the option of the Financial Hardship Policy.
This comes after the recent issuing of rates notices to 18,000 ratepayers across the South Burnett.
South Burnett Mayor Keith Campbell reminded residents that in June this year the council adopted the policy.
"Whilst the council encourages property owners to pay their rates by the due date on the rates notice, we do recognise that there are cases of genuine financial hardship that requires respect and compassion in special circumstances,” he said.
The policy provides guidance as to how the council will assess the applications for rates and charges relief as well as what type of relief is available.
"If a ratepayer is considering applying for relief due to financial hardship, I encourage them to make contact with council to discuss their position and obtain an application,” Cr Campbell said.
